Our Story

Beth has been an Early Intervention Special Educator for 18 years.  In the fall of 2007 Alice came into her classroom.  The idea was not born then, but a friendship developed between Beth and Alice’s mom Soojung.   Over time, Beth began to get a better understanding of the considerable amount of equipment that was needed to keep Alice safe in her home and allow her to be part of her community.  Beth learned from Soojung how much all this equipment costs and that generally insurance only covers 1 piece of equipment every 5 years.  An idea started to form in her mind about a place where families could get help funding what they needed for their children, but she figured something like that must already be out there and put it in the back of her mind.

In 2012,Beth, Soojung, and 3 other women started running together.  For anyone that is a runner you will understand the conversations that happen on long runs.  During a long run one day Beth started talking about her idea of starting a nonprofit and the reason behind it.  Honestly she felt that the ladies would tell her she was crazy.  With a full time job and 3 kids, there was no way that this was a good idea!  The exact opposite happened and her friends immediately started brainstorming ideas.  Beth went home and told her husband about her ideas for starting the nonprofit.  She again thought she would hear “Have you lost your mind our plates are full”, but again the exact opposite happened.  Her husband looked at her and said “I think that is an amazing idea and you should do it!”

This was the start of Alice’s Dream Foundation.  Beth started asking questions of everyone she knew (and didn’t know!) who worked with nonprofits and the journey began.  10 women, their husbands, and their 23 children have been working hard to make Alice’s Dream Foundation a reality.  We are so thrilled to be on this path.  We are looking forward to making as many families and children’s lives better with help from Alice’s Dream Foundation.  In the words of Alice’s older brother Benjamin “If this is Alice’s Dream then anything is possible!”
